sing it with me

Shed a tear 'cause I'm missin' you
I'm still alright to smile
Girl, I think about you every day now
Was a time when I wasn't sure
But you set my mind at ease
There is no doubt
You're in my heart now

Said, woman, take it slow
It'll work itself out fine
All we need is just a little patience
Said, sugar, make it slow
And we come together fine
All we need is just a little patience
(patience)
Mm, yeah

I sit here on the stairs
'Cause I'd rather be alone
If I can't have you right now
I'll wait, dear
Sometimes I get so tense
But I can't speed up the time
But you know, love
There's one more thing to consider

Said, woman, take it slow
And things will be just fine
You and I'll just use a little patience
Said, sugar, take the time
'Cause the lights are shining bright
You and I've got what it takes
To make it, We won't fake it,
I'll never break it
'cause I can't take it

(whistle)
...little patience, mm yeah, mm yeah
need a little patience, yeah
just a little patience, yeah
some more patience, yeah
need some patience, yeah
could use some patience, yeah
gotta have some patience, yeah
all it takes is patience,
just a little patience
is all you need

I BEEN WALKIN' THE STREETS AT NIGHT
JUST TRYIN' TO GET IT RIGHT
HARD TO SEE WITH SO MANY AROUND
YOU KNOW I DON'T LIKE
BEING STUCK IN THE CROWD
AND THE STREETS DON'T CHANGE
BUT BABY THE NAME
I AIN'T GOT TIME FOR THE GAME
'CAUSE I NEED YOU
YEAH, YEAH, BUT I NEED YOU
OO, I NEED YOU
WHOA, I NEED YOU
OO, ALL THIS TIME

No games tonight for the Grouch, just had a couple of beers with TipsyTilter. It was like having a meeting with suicidal anonymous, but of course, this one's for poker.

Ahhh... beer... when it touches your lips, it's so good... and then...whappak! this doesn't make any much sense. LOL

I'll just to get some rest, try to revive some brain cells for tomorrow night's game. We have to defend the camp, home turf. Gotta play goood... it's goooood!

also, just like to greet our regular readers out there namely skippy and nick! sup dawgs? ( i can actually hear nick singing 'spending big chips', nah, just the beer)

Playing Hold'em with STYLE

Ok, so I've been losing lately. So I haven't been playing a lot lately. So I've been calling without an Out lately. Big whoop. The fact of the matter is, I MAKE THIS LOOK GOOD. I mean, if you play poker with STYLE, it doesnt matter if you kick some ass or fold like a cheap hooker or tilt like a friggin noob. What matters is you do it with STYLE.

You enter the poker arena like you own the place. You nod your head at the people you know, they'll introduce you to the others automatically with their greetings. You go to your designated spot, you pay the buy in. You bring out the iPod and put on the Aviators (You can be my wingman). You feel the aura of fear and apprehension from the other players. You play like shit, but nobody really notices coz you are the MAN. You leave the table, you shake a few hands, you grab some beer, and then you disappear like the Man In Black. (Dark Tower, Stephen King. Read it.) The night is over, but you leave an impression. You've become something else - a legend. When everything's said and done, all they will remember is the man who came, who played, and who did it with STYLE.

I'm writing this drunk, so pardon the ego boosting shit i just wrote. Fact is, I'm pretty pissed at my game. The next time I play, I'm gonna bring a shitload of booze with me and regain the lost reputation of the Tipsy Tilter. Nuff said.

Tilter Out.

Winner Take Small

Played at JG poker last night. Thanks again J&G.

It was a mini multi-table tourny with 18 players. Grouch, Tilter, Goma, Uncle Nick, Skip, Pitboss, myself, all repreeezentin'.
My game was an up and down chip roller coaster, 50 chips to 25-50-15-60-15-100. As the ol' saying goes, I played my cards right so made it to final table.
My 3 1/2 hour poker game only got me to 3rd place and my money back. Gail and Bryan had to battle it out, I had to go home. I wanted to take it all though, who wouldn't, I promised those guys from the lunch group at U.P. I'd buy them lunch if I won big again. There's always next time guys, I'ma buy you guys that pizza anytime soon, I feel it. hehe

Remember guys, being drunk is one thing, playing poker while your drunk is another and inviting a drunk euro guy fucks everything up. It's like bringing a portable tilter at the table, you'll tilt at no time. I wasn't paying attention to what he was saying but he did offend some people at the table. :( Good thing nothing serious happened.

Camp Hold'em will have games tomorrow, I hope a lot of new players go. It's going to be a good one! Let us know if you guys are playing. The Camp will be stylin' and repreeezentin'! Bring your A game guys, Friday night poker at its best.

Fish swimming with the fishies.

it aint over yer

it aint over yet.

again, staying true to my word, i'm blogging my own ass for the 2nd time this week.(for the regular readers, you know what I mean. for the new readers, see previous posts.)

fortunately, I learned, for me, the most valuable lesson there is in hold 'em.

Grouch Mantra #2: 'Master your emotions or your emotions will master you'. (number one mantra is 'patince'.)

pretty deep shit, I tell you that, but that was exactly what happened earlier. I knew that someone paired up a king or a jack, and that my pocket8s were kaput. why did i bet? that's for me to know and you to find out.

The Camp will be back, guns blazing this friday, no doubt!

See you soon pipz!

gotta move on

Alright, the Grouch is back. And when I say he's back, he's as grouchy as ever. God I'm no god! My hopes for winning a third consecutive time didn't materealize. And why would it? I really sucked earlier. That's when i realized that i'm not a god, poker god, yet...

Got may game screwed up. Axl Rose and Slash were not with me this time singing me "patience". I failed to settle down and play the game the way I wanted to. hunger? fatigue? lack of composure? the list can go as long as I want it to but i don't think I'll be able to find the answer or the question to that. So what do I do now? chi gong like Tito Nick? I don't think so. I have my own solution.

got my nurse Justin ready and the tools needed for the operation. I need to overhaul this shit.

took off my shirt, got ready, sat down the toilet, plugged the machine, and off we go...

I was starring at my mistakes falling down to the floor. was saying to myself 'strong is weak, weak is strong', 'never loose your money in an unraised pot', ' watch out for the straight'. then i got up after i got the thumbs up from nurse justin(my brother) and looked directly to the mirror. now i'm a poker saint. why you ask? coz now i have no hair.

and why not, some say i look better wearing a skin head. Gus Hansen, Paul Philipps, Phil Ivy, Doyle will eventually loose all of his hair one way or the other, has the neo-nazi look going on, except for Doyle and Phil Ivy of course, like duh. Fish just had his hair done and won earlier. Tito Nick is hanging wieghts to his "Honest John", i don't know if he got any results yet. So the grouch shaved his head. Desperate measures for desperate times.

nah, i'm not desperate, nor am i loosing confidence. just want to try something new here, a new game, a new look, new attitude. trying to build my game one step at a time. start with the basics, and for me, it's to shave my head. we'll find out this wednesday if this thing will actually work. and if it does, you know who started it here in the philippines.

staying true to my word. i played bad, so i'm blogging my own ass.

It's Going to Be a Good One

No. 1 Rounder once told me, if you play your game, you'll be happy. I've been playing my game for that past few weeks. I'm happy, no regrets. I've been playing and I've been learning. Everyday is a learning experience in the game of poker. Learn from your mistakes and avoid repeating those mistakes is probably the best philosophy for me right now. I'm trying to minimize making costly mistakes in my games. I have to pass these words of wisdom to the Grouch. I'm blogging your ass right now, so you better think about those things I told you. hehe I'm glad to have guys like the grouch, tilter and the 'missing-in-action' rounder, helping me with my game. Let's leave our egos at the door, and just play our game. Play a good game.

Thanks to Jardin and Gail, for tonight's game. GG to J&G, Che, Miguel, Chris, Big Hand Rob and Jaz.

Camp Hold'em has a friendster account, be our friends! campholdem@yahoo.com.ph
There's going to be a game this Friday, hopefully it doesn't rain and more players go this time, I know it's going to be a good one.

BLOG IT LIKE IT'S HOT

Lets keep this a short one. Back to back nights, back to back winner. And the sweetest thing of all is the fact that I defeated Goma twice even before the month of June is over. Sweet! I went heads up against him Friday night, and took him out as he finished 3rd Saturday night, then I went on to win the heads up battle against Jardine of the JG Poker Tour. Best two days of my young poker career.

Thanks to Jardine, Gail and the rest of the crew of the JG Poker Tour for letting me, Fish and Goma play yesterday. You guys are more than welcome to play with us.

We’ll be having our regular games every Friday starting around 5 or 6 pm depending if there’s enough players. Buy – ins ranging from 100 – 300 bucks, depends with the agreement the players reach. WE DON’T RAKE, but we’ll really appreciate it if you guys bring beer and stuff.

A Time to Reflect

Well, it's been a terrible month of poker for the Tilter. I haven't been cashing in, my game fluctuates depending on my mood, making stupid calls and getting sucked in into sucker pots. To tell the truth, I'm pretty fed up with my poor play. I think it's time to revamp my game and get my act together. But first things first, I need to reestablish my reputation. No more Mr. Calling-Without-an-Out!!!

Congrats to the Grouch and Fish for representing in JG! More power to the Camp! Now where's the bloody tong??!!

Poker at JG

The best way to spend a Saturday afternoon is to play poker at J & G's

Met new poker buddies - Jardin, Gail, Bryan, Miguel, Che...

Playing at JG's poker table was sweet, it felt like the world series hehe . Good game guys.

Jardin won heads-up with all-in's, maybe from now on I should call you Mr. All In or even JT (Jack Ten) instead of JG hehe. :)

Thanks J&G for letting me and The Grouch join your game, you're welcome to join our games anytime!

We met J&G through Tilter's friend and from Friendster! Camp Hold'em would probably have a Friendster account anytime soon...to let friends know about updates, games details and scheds etc...
My bro's ex, gave me a pasalubong, a shirt that says "You gotta lay'em to play'em" and there's a royal flush on the background. I'm really not sure what the shirt says but it's cool my first poker shirt. Thanks Car. You made my day! :) If I were to make a poker shirt it would go something like, "Gimme yo' chips" then there's a 7-2 os on in the background haha. No. 1 Rounder has been missing in action lately due to school, you gotta play one time or another man, them skills gonna get rusty!. Goma again, 'podium' finish as he says in last night's game, getting only 2nd against The Grouch who ended a losing streak.

There's a lot of games going on right now, I'd agree with Uncle Nick but last night's game was shorthanded though, we need more players. A solid group of 15 would be great, SNGs all the way. Let us know if you want to play. Greenhills area. campholdem@yahoo.com 09228862753

STRAIGHT to the point

I’ll go straight to the point, I didn’t see the straight! That all there is to it basically; I just didn’t see the straight brewing up. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I like to believe that I was playing a pretty solid game. I took out Tilter and had my eyes set on Goma. God I really wanted to take this punk – ass bitch down. But it wasn’t the meant to be.

To Goma: I’ll beat your ass before the month of July is over!

To Tilter: What’s up with that man?! But it’s alright; you won the “other” battle. Hahah nice one man! I owe you tickets!

To Fish: Nice playin’. I had my money on you vs. Goma. Bad beats I guess

To David and Preston: Nice playing with you guys and happy trip to you Preston!

To Justin: My bro, do you have what it takes to play this game? Guess we’ll just have to find out.

As for the 1st ever Camp Hold ‘Em Invitational, I’m not sure if it will push thru ‘coz of the problems with the venue. We have to cut the players down to around 20 if we’re going to have it here at “aruba” a.k.a. my place. So keep posted.

Just like what the Fish said earlier, we’ll probably be playing every Friday, starting around 5 or 6 p.m. if no one’s gonna use the poolside here (aka aruba). Just contact us and ask if we’ll be playing and anyone is more that welcome to play with us.

Grouchiest I’ve ever been…

Friday Night Poker

It was a long friday night.

I played for 3 straight nights this week, mini-tourny at my place on wed, poker at the fort on thurs and a 7-handed SNG at the Grouch's. I'm trying to keep up to uncle nick's 12 games in 14 nights streak but I don't think I'll be able to catch up! hehe

My day started with me not waking up for my psychology class due to a late night poker game at the fort. I had enough sleep though and I was ready to go play some cards.

Around lunch time, Grouch, Tilter and I, were already planning an late afternoon game but it was called off due to the lack of players. We 3 decided to watch the final episode of the WSOP 2004, when Raymer took 5 million buckaroos at the final table with a pair of 8's. But that wasn't the show we were waiting for, right after the poker show, we had to see the "art film" of Shana Hiatt entitled "Volcano" (Thanks to the Grouch). You guys have to see it! Lucky samoan bastard.

It was obvious we had to play, the whole day we were just talking about poker and everything related to it. It's been a while since Tilter played so we had to set up a game. Thank God, we were able to set one up, a 7-handed SNG. It was the UP guys with new players David, Preston and Justin. Again, the network of players are constantly expanding. I texted Ken S. if he was playing, I was supposed to invite him but he had to do something. Next time Ken!

Tilter played a fuckin' jackass game! Playing strong against a caller. Basically, he was throwing a party at the table by giving away his chips. Losing to Queen/ King high! Dammit man. The Grouch played a pretty good game by laying the trap and making some guys call to his big bets and all in's, lost focus though at a crucial bubble situation. Get them next time Grouch. As for me, I was shortstacked all through out until the pocket 7's came and doubled me up. I managed to get to the top 3, I was in for the money. Again, lucky 7's took David out, and it was me and Goma (Paolo) heads up.

A very aggressive Goma, raised my every call. I was very much a tight battle, we just exchanged chips until the 6 or 7 deal, where it became interesting...

ME: Jh7h
Goma: ??

Flop: J-J-3
Turn: J-J-3-8
River: J-J-3-8-5

On the river Goma bet 1000 in a 5000 pot. I pushed all in, he called showing me Js8s

NH GG

What are the odds? hehe

Last words from tonight's game: weak is strong, strong is weak. Focus(grouch). Play the obvious (tilter) . Patience (me).

Battle Scared

I can’t believe it! First ever tourney for me, and what do I get? A big L on my forehead! Seated table 1, seat 1, all I can remember saying to me is, and ‘fuck! I have to deal’, which turned out to be a complete disaster! I had to deal again, and let me tell you, I was shaking like a Polaroid picture after seeing the disappointment painted on the faces of my fellow competitors. I have to give it to them; they were patient to me, the virgin boy. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to stop shaking like a Polaroid picture, but ended up playing in the final two tables. That’ll do pig, that’ll do.

Now I’ll talk about the poker of it. Lots of things learned that night. I’ll break it down for you guys:

  1. Don’t be stupid! It’s like the billboards you see, JUST SAY FREAKN’ NO! My balls to the wall attitude which happens to be my motto in real life, will probably not work in hold em’. Why? Coz lady luck won’t be enough for you to win.

  1. When in doubt, just play the obvious. A lil’ bit of strategizing will always, always be a good thing. But just like everything else, too much of it will mess up your freakin’ mind BIG TIME! It goes back to number one, DON’T BE STUPID!

  1. DON’T BE A SCARDY CAT! Your opponents might be good, but more often than not, they might be not as good as you might think. I’m not saying that you should always underestimate your opponents. All I’m saying is have a bit of self-confidence. Remember, they’re also drawing from the same deck as you are. And they might be more scared than you than you are to them.

Well, I guess that’s it for now. Had a great time last night, met nick g, pit boss, ace and the others. Hope to play you guys again.

That’ll do pig, that’ll do.

Grouchy as ever…

the rookie

Blogging sucks! Never kept a joural in my entire life.... not even when i was required by my english teacher back in high school. However, it's all about to change, because of one thing, and it's called hold 'em.

I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I feel that I have so much more to learn playing this game. I understand that winning a couple of pots here and there doesn't mean that I can play. But I'm getting there. With a lil' patience, will, faith, and a lot of balls, I know I'm getting there.

Right now, all I can say is.... better watch out men, big boy is here to play.

Crossed the Finish Line First

What a night, I’m tired and worn out but yeah, I had shitloads of fun. Losing a couple of hundreds isn’t that bad, I’m sure I’d get it back. We were playing a 14-way 2 table tourney a while back and guess what? I crossed the finish line first. Which isn’t always good, don’t get me wrong. Out of 14 players, I ended up being in 14th place. Tough luck, but it’s all good.

Everything was going my way in the early going, winning quite a number of pots. Small ones though, I was trying to build up my confidence, figuring out how the people in my table were playing. Everyone seemed damn tight, waiting for good hands, folding with crappy ones. So there it was, my last hand. Mark to my left was on the button, everyone just tried to limp in to buy the pot, till Skip, the guy to my right, raised it by 40, well it wasn’t that big of a raise but yeah, I was feeling good bout my hand. The flop went 10KK, off suit, I had K4 as my hand. After the flop, Skip placed a big bet, I was thinking he had a 10 and probably an A kicker. I raised him without hesitation, he called me with ease. I was wondering now, I had to buy that hand, not knowing it would cost me a lot. So turn comes, no help for either, he bets again. I go all in, he calls me without having second thoughts. Show of hands, he had pocket tens, devastating for me, but hey, he deserved it. Shook his hand, and gave him all my chips. You got me there Skip, you had the better hand. I promise I’ll get you next time. :)

Well I read him wrong, and as I said, I would find myself nowhere but in a deep shithole. It happens to the best of us, my set of K’s lost to a boat, 10’s full of K’s. Nonetheless, I really had fun, thanks to Carlo for hosting the game. Fisherman went out several hands after I did, Tilter cashed in at third. Nice meeting you guys, hope we could play more in the future. Thanks to Nick for the invite. See you guys on Saturday. I’m out, lates.

The Tilter Cashes for Third

Wow, what a night. That was some Poker action over at Carlo's pad. I've never had that much fun playing serious and intense Poker in the short span I've been playing. There were around 14 people who played in 2 tables, a mini tournament, or a harbringer of things to come when the big tourney on Saturday arrives. After four San Mig Lights and some solid play, I managed to land third. A very very hard fought third I might add. Props to all the guys who played - Carlo, Nick G, Nik, Ian, Kix, Joel, John Paul, Skip, Denis, Pit Boss, and of course, Camp Hold'em's Fisherman and Rounder, and our honorary member for the night, Goms. It was a pleasure to meet and play with you guys.

I don't think I can do a Blow-By-Blow analysis of the hands I played because of the beer, but all I remember was my last hand. Ah-Jh. Nik raised the blind, I went All In, Kix mucked, Nik called. Nik had K-K. To cut the story short, I lost (doesn't surprise me with the way things have been going over the past few weeks). Kix and Nik split the top two's earnings.

I played solid most of the night, not making any crazy calls that I'm known for. I think I got on a roll when Nick G raised before and on the flop of 7-7-J when I had Kd-Jd. I think he had A-Q if I'm not mistaken. He raised some more on 4th Street, we checked on the River. Well Nick, all I can tell you is, you had my heart pounding all throughout that hand. I could not think you had the 7 because you raised before the flop, so I gambled on the Jack. (my Ultimate Bet name is Jack Jack. People tell me I always play any hand with a Jack. Including my last hand, so go figure.)

I'm really excited for Saturday's big tourney. I hope I can play as well as tonight. I also hope Fisherman and Rounder can do better =/. Haha, just kidding guys. I have faith in you, I know you'll kick some ass come Saturday.

That's all for now, Tilter out.

Which Type of Player Are You?

I stumbled on this site and few months ago (www.holdempoker.com) I went back and read it again, its hilarious. I just want to share it with you guys! :)

PLAYER PROFILES

The Rock = Passive + Tight + Pro

By far the tightest player of any table. The rock barely plays any hands at all. Aces and kings he loves, though. And when he gets them, he knows exactly how to play them. He is a good reader of the game who risks very few unexpected, big losses. He knows when his aces have been cracked.

The Mad Hatter = Loose + Casual + Aggressive + Loud Mouth

This complete nut job is the biggest fish of all! Either he doesn’t have a clue how to play, or he just doesn’t care. And gladly informs everyone that he thinks “Poker is just like Scrabble”. He bets every hand and raises even more, while constantly asking questions like “I have a four card flush, is that any good? Oh.”

The Loose Grinder = Loose + Einstein

The weekend regular who plays mainly for fun, hoping to edge out a little profit by the end of the night. He has picked up some skills during all his sessions, and can, on a lucky night, be a real force. Not to be underestimated, but never to be overestimated either.

The Professor = Tight + Aggressive + Pro

The guy to avoid at all times. He understands the cards, he knows how to play them and does so mercilessly. He hasn’t read the books though. He wrote them. But he will lay them aside when necessary. Don’t try and bluff this guy. Don’t try to outplay him. Actually don’t play him at all. Become him.

Calling Station = Loose + Passive (tsssssssssssssss........)

Next stop Suckerville. Newcomers to the game of poker often find themselves acting like calling stations, staying in pots as long as there is a chance, albeit remote, of winning it. They don’t care about their odds or their outs. If there’s a chance, well, then there’s a chance. “Might as well” and “I paid you this far so...” are typical calling station expressions.

The Student = Hibernator + Tight + Einstein

This guy takes his poker dead seriously. He has, however, yet to build a stack big enough for the large games and most profitable tournaments. So he has to be careful not to bust. He practises a lot and plays strictly by the book. He is still inexperienced, though, and due to his rather rigid game, he risks facing some very severe bad beats. Something that can send him into tilt fidgets.

The Pretender = Chameleon + Aggressive + Loud Mouth

This is the dodgy fellow that makes all the other players tilt. He pretends and plays like he is a mad hatter, but he’s got your game read like an open book with thirty feet letters in it. He lures people in with his seemingly idiotic raises and bluffs and just when people are about to stack the pot, the pretender reveals some absolute crap starting hand he knew would win all along. While HE then stacks the pot the other player has to settle for a good steam.

The Texan Terror = Loud Mouth + Loose + Casual (+Drunk)

This guy will abuse his opponents, his cards, his seat and when that is not enough, the software, the poker room and the rest of the world, too. If he wins he will gloat a ton. If he loses he will either just shrug it off or kill you. Then he’ll buy in again for the maximum allowed limit. The Terror is often filthy rich and lets you know it.

Miss Mystery = Chameleon + Pro + Hibernator

The perfect covert strategy for players deemed to be underestimated. Happily plays along making stupid comments and sometimes intentionally making bad calls. All the while figuring the others out and making sure to win the really big pots – off course, without seeming to know it. Keeps a very low profile, in fear of the act being revealed.

PLAYING STYLES

Although there are just about unlimited ways to play any given poker hand, there are certain characteristic mindsets that players have that enables us to define a number of basic player styles. In other words, based on a player’s general tactical approach towards the game and his general mindset, players can be divided into a number of categories. Understanding these categories and learning their do’s and don’ts is vital to succeed in poker.

Tight / Loose

The tight player plays less starting hands, opting to wait for prime hand cards like pocket pairs. On an unlucky day he could be waiting for hours, but if so he will still not loose much. The loose player is less selective and sees opportunities instead of obstacles. This is a much riskier approach demanding a bigger understanding of the game to succeed. But he is guaranteed to always be in on the action.

Passive / Aggressive

The passive player is careful and cautious. Even if he has a good hand he will take it easy, aware of the costs if the hand is beaten anyway. Thus he is difficult to trap. The aggressive player, off course, acts the opposite. If he thinks he’s got a winning hand, he’ll go for it. This adds a beneficial bluff factor to his game.

Einstein / Chameleon

Einstein plays by the numbers. He usually has a book, or an odds chart, readily in hand. His goal is to play his hands according to the odds calculations and guidelines set forth in mentioned books. The chameleon player is more concerned about his fellow players. He tries to play his game based on how they play theirs. Shifting and adjusting all the time.

Pro / Casual

The pro player tries to play his game thinking like a pro – evaluating his every decision. The casual player has got a slightly more relaxed attitude towards the game. Although the pro approach, naturally, is a pretty good one, it can be tough thinking it’s the WSOP finale, when everyone else plays for fun. The Pro may find himself facing a lot of unexpected cards – take some weird losses and tilt.

Loud Mouth / Hibernator

The loud mouth talks and talks and then talks some more. He is attempting to throw his opponents off balance by constantly commenting hands, arguing moves and debating last Sunday’s football game. The hibernator is – silent. He plays, loses and wins without a single word. By combining these you will be able to define just about every single player out there. And as soon as you got them figured out, you will have an edge knowing in advance how they are likely to react.

Now you know which type of player you are! hehehe :)

Lady Luck Wins

Well, Rounder beat Gatz in that first game. Glad to know our team mate did not embarrass us! Hehehe. Anyway, on to the next game!

It seemed like protecting my reputation in the first game paid off. I started out with the same aggressiveness. I raised pots, bet hard at flops. Everybody kept giving me the pots. Just the way I liked it. I pushed people around and sensed the fear in them, like Palpatine manipulating the Galactic Senate! I've rediscovered my game, and I haven't played this strong since the Aruba Sunnyville Classic! And I wasn't even drinking!

Everything went fine until one hand, where i got Q-Q. I bet before the flop, and to my astonishment, No. 1 Rounder re-raised me! I mean, wtf? Did he have A-A? K-K? I doubted it, so I moved All In. He called. He had K-Q. Something inside my head started to tingle. Just last week, I had A-K and I lost to K-K. Fisherman cracked my A-A's in the first game too! So now, I thought, could this be payback time? When the flop came out ragged, I knew I was almost at the finish line. When the turn came out, I wanted to rip the cards to shreds. King. I mean, for crying out loud! This ain't fair!

So the moral lesson of the story here folks, is that no matter how good you play, you must have Lady Luck on your side. And if you were given a choice between being constantly good or constantly lucky, you know what to choose. :p

A Lesson Learned

A funny thing just happened in Camp Hold'em today. After reviewing Brunson's Super System's last night, I decided to take some of his words to an extreme. You see, for a few rounds now, I've been playing really solid poker - landing top 2 or 3 almost every single game. Although most of the games had noobs, I felt proud of the way I've been playing. I was patient, I did not call without an out, I played aggressive when I had the nuts. So when I read the Bible again, I realized I've been losing a lot of aggressiveness. I thought of the way I played the last few rounds, and it dawned on me I was making a lot of weak bets or even check-raising. As we all know, check-raising is a very weak move in poker. The Fisherman even commented on how tight I was playing - and I did not want to be known as a tight player. If Gus Hansen and Doyle Brunson were my idols, then how the hell can I be playing tight?! Something had to change.

So the opportunity arose when our friend Edu invited yours truly, Fisherman and No. 1 Rounder to his house for a few rounds of Hold'em. As soon as the first hand was dealt, my mindset was just to play uber aggressive. So I bet even when I just had the smallest possible out - third button, possible set, or drawing a straight or a flush. The first few rounds, I was stealing pots left and right - just the way Doyle would have done. I was an early chip leader. Then, in a twisted turn of events, I was involved in a hand against our friend Gatz, a new player. I had Ad-5h, and the flop came out 3d-9h-4h. Gatz checked, and I raised the pot. He called and 4th Street came out 2h. I had the straight, but I was surprised when Gatz raised the pot. I knew he was either drawing for the flush, or already had it. It was a tough decision for me, knowing if I gave in, he could do the same thing to me again later. I had to protect my new game. I called. The River came out 3h. I had the flush, but I knew Gatz had it too. I knew I was beat. He went All In. My stack was depleted, so I said what the hell. Protect the reputation at all costs. I called. He had Kh-Qh. Good game?

So here I am, thinking of what had just happened. My aggressive play was there, but I was reckless. I think I'm on my way to winning the next few games if I played with not only the same aggressiveness, but also the same solidness I've shown the past few games. I'll update you in a bit. Rounder is going Heads-Up with Gatz. Let's see if Rounder can represent the Camp and take Gatz out.

Swimming With the Fishies

Just got home from playing poker. A friend invited me to play with a couple of people, since the place was near my pad, I went and checked it out. I thought I was going to play with 4,5,6 people at the most, the funny thing was when I got there, there were around 20 people. I remembered a quote I read somewhere- 'all you need is a chip and a chair'. I was excited to play despite the fact I was on a long losing streak but since I'm here, I might as well play.

There were 3 wooden tables, I went to the first one and introduced myself, and there I was playing with complete strangers. I played a shorthanded game with 6 people including myself. It was a 100 peso buy-in that bought me 50 chips - I felt right at home because I always play 100 or 200 peso buy-ins with 50 chips , small blinds, big blinds and antes. ANTES?! WTF!!!

Playing a shorthanded game with antes is normal, yeah, only if your at the final table of a tourny! I just don't like playing with antes at the start of the game because of a bad experience I had playing with another group. Playing with antes makes you put more chips in the pot. At the strat you'd be looking at 50 chips and after 10 deals, a few bad flops, you'd probably down to half your original stack or more if your tight. Anyway, that's the way they play then let's play! (oh yeah, did I tell you that when they dealt the cards the dealer is the first one to get the cards haha texas hold'em???)

After 5 deals, I had to say I was there again swimming with the fishes. Calling stations to my right, checking stations to my left. Dammit nobody knows when to fold which is by the way good... only when the cards fall your way!!!. You guys are probably thinking I'm crazy for ranting about the people at the table. Well its because that these players are very loose and unpredictable, dangerous in a way. By the way I lost a hundred bucks on the first game. Now on to my 2nd game...

I played a second game with another group of people. This time we were 6 and it was a 200 peso buy-in pot with 50 chips each. I had to be patient now, focus on the game and try to win. I had to because I kept on seeing that Q5os when the guy went all in with nothing on the board for him v.s. a guy that flopped a bottom pair! hahaha Back to the 2nd game. I was waiting for a good hand, the first good hand I got was a KQos so raised pre-flop, got 4-5 callers (yeah) flop came and I flopped top pair with my kings, I bet again, everyone folded. Good! I won my first pot of the night! Yeah, there were still antes and dealer gets the first card. After I won a pretty good sized pot, I started to feel (not play) loose and played better, I was fortunate enough to flop sets on a couple of hands, I kept on checking and leave all the betting to them. I won a huge pot after that. There were 4 of us left, two shortstacks, one medium stacked and me as the leader.

The first shortstack went all in, the other shortstack called, medium stacked folded. I called with A3os. Flopped an ace both guys had K's or Q's. Lucky A's took them out and then there were 2 left!

Heads up with the medium stacked guy. Side note, I remember when I played the first game this guy I'm up against lost heads up to the other guy, I had to give him credit for staying long in the game. We only had one deal and here's the hand breakdown:

ME: Ks7s
HIM: ? ?
Pre Flop: I call, He raises, I call
Flop: 8s4c5s - I check, I think he bet and I called a small bet
Turn: Js - I have my flush and I checked it, he made a more than half size pot bet. I moved in on him. He immediately called. I showed him my king high flush, He mucked his hand in disgust, everyone at the table wanted to see what he had, he had bullets. Nice game bro.

It was a good night, I played another game after with three people, had pocket 10's (tripped on the river), pocket Q's-folded because of two 3's on the board, the guy who went all in had QUADS by the way. Then my last hand, pocket 7's.. Sevens from heaven, i went all in with. The guy called with KQs, flop came out no help to both, turn came Q. I was beat but hey 700 bucks up ain't to shabby, at least I made a couple of new poker buddies. Till next thursday guys, good game had fun! I'll bring tilter and rounder with me next time. Fisherman signing out!

For the Love of the Game

It all started out a couple of months back when on one afternoon, my cousin, Mark, invited me for some poker game over the net. I wasn't doing anything, so yeah, I did. The game was called, No Limit Texas Hold'em.

A couple of days passed, and I was playing at UltimateBet regularly just so I could burn time when I wasn't doing anything. It was all fun till I got to watch the movie "Rounders", which starred Matt Damon, a guy who played poker from rags to riches for a living. You want to know why? Watch it. Then you realize, it's not just any ordinary card game which involves shitloads of luck, it's No Limit Texas Hold'em, the cadillac of poker. A game that takes a minute to learn, a lifetime to master.

That's when I started taking the game seriously. NL Texas Hold'em is more of a skill game, yes, you may have to need luck, but it's how you play and bet. Looking at how people play their hands and reading their moves is quite a challenge, read them right, props to you, read them wrong, you're going to find yourself in a deep shithole. So there it became official, putting my game a few notches up was one of my priorities. I started to fall in love with the game.

For starters, playing over the net with a bag of chips and a couple of cans of beer could earn up a space to your hobby list. But playing the real thing with real money is different. Adding a deck of cards and a cig here and there changes everything. One word? Addictive. So a few weeks later we set up this "poker bootcamp" it was a 3-night thing. We had fun, everyone was drinking, laughing, giving their best poker faces, but I had to place it that the best part was winning. We played a one table 8-way game of NL Texas Hold'em, I lost my very first game but then I considered it as a warm-up. After, I won quite a number of games, reading my way through bluffs and nuts. It was one hell of a bootcamp, and what a way to start my so called career.

As of late I've been playing poker with my buds once to twice a week. Joining some tourneys and freerolls here and there, practicing, trying to get better and luckily winning some multi-table tourneys. I'm looking forward to some guaranteed cash tourneys as of now, and I've got a few on my list. Feel free to comment, or any, invitations are most likely welcome (Hit me up, IM name on profile). Later.

Texas Hold-what?!

Last Christmas holiday, Pao, a good friend of mine, went back to the P.I. raving about poker. It seemed like everyone in the states was playing poker so I said to myself that i'll give it a try. He brought out his 20 dollar poker set which included 100 plastic chips, felt playing mat and a deck of plastic cards - that was my first poker night!

I never got to appreciate the game during that time, not until sports plus aired the greatest show on earth! The World Poker Tour! The first episode I catched was the one when Phil Gordon lost to Juha Helppi on the UB aruba tour. After watching the show I started playing online, going all in with absolutely nothing, my goal was just to accumulate as much play chips as I can. I was an achievable task but it wasn't easy. I really had to play pairs, read flops things a regular noob would do, oh did i mention going all in no nuts? hehe that was then guys.

After 141 freerolls (and counting), here I am, a certified poker addict! Playing 3-4 home games a week with buddies, playing 7-10 hours of poker online, damn! if the Big C had hold'em i'd probably be there with my poker face (and hopefully walking out with a bulging wallet :p) Don't get me wrong, I don't aspire to be a professional poker player, well maybe. I just love the game and I'm glad that buddy of mine introduced me to the game of poker.

If any of you guys want to play lemme know, I'm on my 142nd freeroll now so I gotta jet and hopefully reach the final table. Feel free hit us up anything poker or non-poker related! later guys.

The Cadillac of Poker

It's official, I'm hooked on Poker. Not just any kind of Poker, No Limit Texas Hold'em Poker. The Cadillac of Poker, as Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten would say at the World Poker Tour.

It all started one rainy night at my buddy Nino's house in Valle Verde - the night I popped my cherry... in Hold'em that is. At that time, my only Poker background was from watching Five Card Stud movies such as Maverick, and watching WPT on Sports Plus. So, we played a short-handed game of three, and to cut the story short, I eliminated Nino, became chip leader, then squandered my lead and eventually lost Heads Up to my friend Mark.

From then on, I played a couple of games here and there, mostly losing cash and my desire to play. So I layed low for a few weeks, not being concerned with Poker and focused more on my Golf game. (I'm around a 7 handicap if you wish to know. Drop me a message if you want to play. If there's anything that I'm more interested in besides Poker, it's Golf.)

So Poker was completely out of my mind at the time, that was until I saw my Poker idol play in WPT. Gus Hansen. The crazy bloke who played almost every hand dealt to him. And of course, watching him do those tricks with his chips, it just added to his aura of invincibility.

A few weeks later, I decided to have a mini Poker tournament at my house. We played an eight ring game, and lo and behold, I finally won my first game of Hold'em. And I kept winning for the next three nights in what would be known as The Poker Camp. The funny thing was how I was winning. A lot of my friends think I sold my soul to St. Michael (San Miguel), because the more I drank, the more my game got better. Hence the name Tipsy Tilter. Of course, we all know that's a load of crap right? Or maybe not...

Afterwards, Mark, my partner in crime in Hold'em, lent me Doyle Brunson's Super Systems, the Bible of Poker. That probably sealed the deal for me. I was an official No Limit Texas Hold'em Poker addict.

Since then, I began playing online at www.UltimateBet.com to hone my new found skills. Also, I began looking for gullible noobs who were willing to donate some cash to the Tipsy Tilter Foundation. But money was never my priority, and never will be. It has always been the thrill of putting everything on the line, even in Golf. Knowing you can lose it all, or win it all in one go, that's what I live for. Whatever cash or reward I get would only be a bonus.

And now, here I am making a Blog about Poker. I will probably post most of the things I know about Hold'em, like strategies, how I won, or how I lost, theories, observations and anything under the sun with regards to Hold'em. That's all for now, this is your Tipsy Tilter signing out.
