Quality Over Quantity?

Here we are, our dreams being fulfilled by countless games sprouting left and right. It's hard to resist to play everyday and sniff out the fishies. We all know we have to have a bankroll and play only the games that your roll can handle. But with the amount of games one can play, playing one huge game a week that will hurt your bankroll is almost the same as playing five small games. How is this so? Just play the percentage game, as well as consider getting burnt out. If you play one big game a week, you won't need to play as much, but the payoff or the losses would be the same. Or course, there is no subsitute for experience, but if you've played over a thousand hands already, it wouldn't make that big a difference, especially if your small games are against fishies. My advice to the crew: choose your games well. Playing fishies is just as tough as playing pros, maybe tougher. Fishies with huge bankrolls are very dangerous. Just keep that in mind bros.

Look at Tiger Woods. He plays the minimum number of tournaments each season, but his winning percentage is unfathomable. He picks his spots well, and when he decides to play, he goes out with guns blazin'. Over-exposure and getting burnt out is always a danger, especially in mental games like golf and poker.

A friendly reminder from Eggs Ben, formerly known as The Chairman, formerly known as Tipsy Tilter. :D

When I'm as good as Tiger Woods, I will do the same thing :) I prefer quantity though, not to be against you or anything but it's just the way I roll... hahaha

who's to say we are not "fishies" ourselves? i say play as much as you can for with as many different groups as possible. it's the best way to learn. Tiger woods picks his spots, yes, but that is because he has already paid his dues in terms of holes played and tournaments joined. (i can only imagine the thousands of hours he has invested in the game before he achieved his level of play).

my two cents worth. hehe.

i remember tiger saying, "i never join a tournament which i feel i cannot win." it is true he's invested so much time to practice and improve, but not playing tournaments.

don't just go and keep playing every game you find, coz it's not smart. choose your spots well, and your bank roll will speak for itself.

hmmm...perhaps pick your spots in MTT tourneys but play as many ring games and different people as possible (as your bankroll permits of course). after we've done all our book-learnin', we gotta get thousands and thousands of hands in along with continual learnin'.

tough to do in this town, cuz games are spread apart and usually tourney format, but this is gonna change.

I think Tiger was talking about the PGA tour, where the best of the best play. i'm sure he joined dozens, if not hundreds of small tournaments growing up, coz i believe he started at around the age of 5 or something? that's thousands of hours playing golf, practice, local tournaments, and hundreds of games with friends, etc.

It's a bit ironic that tiger woods said that statement, because why would there be a tournament that he can't win if he is the number one, meaning the best, player around? :) maybe he chooses the tournaments that would give the most profitablilty or with the most media coverage hehe. There's no tournament tiger woods cant win at his level of play, i think.

Even the greatest players alive right now play hours and hours everyday. we have no excuse to pick our spots, especially at our level of play (i say we are all beginners, except maybe for mr.nickg hehe).. i say play as much as we can, with as many different players as possible, according to the limits of our bankroll.

Like any skill, the secret to mastery is repetition, repetition, and repetition. Poker masters do pick their spots, but in terms of how much money is at stake (blind and limits), but not how many times they play. They still play as much as they can! =)
