Table Image

I'm really not sure about what the pro's talk about when they say table image, because obviously you'll get scared of them pro' because you see them on TV, you know they're professional poker players with matching WSOP bracelets. But besides that, table image is one thing every player should have.

Law #5 of POWER by R. Greene

So much depends on your reputation, guard it with your life.

Enough said. I try to work on my reputation as well playing games, doing what I have to do. It seems like my reputation or image is somewhat of a bluffer, I don't get it. I work on my image to be a ROCK (see last last month's posts) I want to raise and laydown monster nuts, but people always think I ain't got nothing, oh well! and being the character or player you want to project can also let you be the exact opposite of your image. It's like you playing with two faces... hehe >:D
Having your image broken or splattered on is something you wouldn't want to happen. It would ruin the essense of your purpose. Image should give out the message to the people out there that they should respect your game and you will respect theirs in return.
Sometimes your rep can also be your enemy, players will figure you out and try to crack you and that's the time you switch/change gears and be unpredictable, all the more - dangerous.

Strike them with fear!

-Che: are you talking about grouch or me? hehe. well, it depends on your perception of what TIGHT is. Because there is the tight type where he/she plays tight meaning he/she picks the premium hands and plays them really aggressively. Or tight as somebody who just lets the blinds take away his/her money. :) appreciate your comment

tight meaning not playing KT when your already short stacked. dude, there is a thin line between tight and solid. solid players are hesitant to play hands, but when they do, expect them to be uber aggressive. i have yet to see that from you bro.

but seriously.

we're all largely playing novices or near novices.

table image for me, like all of poker, is an intangible asset developed over time. if you nurture it like a mother would her child (easier for women to do), feed it, bathe it, change its diapers, drop it off at school, it will pay dividends for you. It'll take care of you when you grow old.

I might be overboard there.

Novices are too wrapped up in their own game to pay attention to you. They're worried about whether they should call your raise, not why and under what circumstances you raised that pot.

So yes, develop your image. Work it over time. Change it up when you can.

You'll know when you can earn from it.

I've learned (most of the time by losing) that when it comes to novice players, as in newbies with almost no experience playing poker, table image is useless. AND, if you dont play with a certain group REGULARLY, it is useless too.

too many times i played hands against newbies thinking they thought the same way experienced players did. too many times i got wiped out by lucky draws and "check, check, check" with nut hands. hehehe.

at the present level of play i believe most of us are in right now (somewhat still beginners ourselves, since poker takes a lifetime to master, and most of us here have only been playing for maybe at most a year?) i think we have to concentrate on the BASICS on improving our game. not too much on what we see on TV or read in books, but more on experience. playing hands, betting, folding, basically getting better with your game.

then we can slowly work on table image, reading tells, and other more advanced aspects of the game along the way. ;D
