Decisions decisions...

Alright, I've been thinking about a certain scenario that could arise during a tournament, and I want to hear your views about it. Lets say your playing a Multi-Table Tournament, got a bit unlucky, not getting the cards, being outdrawn by your opponents, resulting in a short stack. The question:

When do you push? What are the deciding factors for you to consider risking all of your stack and your tournament on the line?

When the blinds are going hit me soon, PUSH like there's no tomorrow.

i've bought-in the cash games small stack so many times and more often than not i've managed to turn it into a profit, small stack special!
even in the mango tourney, i was small stack all the way but managed to push at the right times to make it to the money.

All i can say is, push it in ONLY if you have enough information to know that you are AHEAD. Even if your stack is getting smaller and smaller, and the blinds hit you and makes your stack even smaller, wait for the right time. One of the best times to push is if you are in the blinds, since you can see what everyone else will do before you act. Even if your stack is too small that it is going to get callers, it's a chance to triple up or more. yeah you can get beat, but a least you went down fighting and not with some rag hand.

If you get a premium hand, of course it's a no-brainer. But i remember in the mango, i was throwing away Ace-rag hands even if my stack was super small, but i went all in with K-J suited because of the right timing and position. one time i didnt push with pocket tens on the BB but waited for the flop, and folded it pa when 2 face cards came out. The Atty. was in the hand so i chose not to push.

There's a lot of factors to consider, especially in an important tourney. mostly it's position and timing, secondary yung cards itself.

that't the problem tilter, do you wait for a premium hand even if the blinds are going to hit you? or push with a marginal hand just like fish said?

If youre gonna get blinded out, then by all means push. but if you can survive the blinds for AT LEAST one more round of play, you have more hands to choose from.

Right timing and position pa rin eh. IF you push with a decent or good hand, someone with a big stack will probably call you with something marginal. at least you put your game on the line while having the edge over your opponents.

If you want to go kamikaze and call with any two cards, go ahead. you "might" get lucky. but poker is really about information and control, and my strategy is to push when i have all the info i need to asses if the time is right.

but that's just me.

or you can be pretentious and fold your queens or go all in with 7-4 or something like that hehe.

yeah, i agree. position is key. in this case, BB is best coz you see all of the ppl who's still in the pot. if you see a tight player raising then you better think if ur hand is good enough.
