Blessing of the bad beat
Bad beats, everyone hates them. And why wouldn’t anyone? You were miles ahead, pure domination, and then a freak card rivered and took away your stack of high society. You just got benga! You go home, feeling stupid, contemplating about the hand, trying to re-analyze everything, trying to figure out your mistake. Turns out, you didn’t do anything wrong, poker happens.
After reading the first part of the Skalansky book, I got a renewed respect or view for bad beats. According to the book, bad beats will always happen to the better player because chances are the better player entered that pot ahead. HE made the right decision when it mattered most, then simply got out carded by the amateur.

Just wanted to post something I read on FTP.
"First, let's consider what most would view as a typical "bad beat" -- a lower pocket pair winning against a higher pocket pair in hold 'em, such as KK beating AA. When those hands share one suit, the chance of the worse hand winning is about 18%. The chance of the lower pair winning twice -- that is, the next two times that such hands happen to go against each other -- is about 3%. If in one session of play, a lower pocket pair beat a higher pocket pair twice, that might seem a little, well, weird to some players."
i do see higher pockets getting beat by lower pockets... that happening twice is insane... 3%?!?!?!? Benga ka nun...
i went all in pre-flop on the bubble (five handed) while on BB with pocket 3's, since there was only one caller and i figured i can take someone out or steal the blinds. the guy CALLS me with a J-7 off. i'm still ahead right?
it wouldn have mattered if i had pocket aces since he got the straight on the turn.
